Video Game Consoles - Gaming World

Games consoles and video games are an important part of modern life. They are a great example of how our technology has advanced, as well as the tremendous creativity we still possess. They are also pretty fun too.

The last decade saw an explosion of new consoles onto the market, including the three most popular at the moment: the Xbox console 360, the Playstation console 3 (PS3), and the Nintendo console Wii. All made by different companies, these consoles offer the widest array of games you could imagine, as well as modern comforts like online gaming and wireless controllers.

Graphics

With the advanced technology comes the advanced graphics. Games console makers are always developing the way their games look on-screen, and how they can make them appear real. The Xbox 360 and PS3 are excellent at doing this, many of their games have such great graphics, that it sometimes feels like a movie rather than a game.

The Nintendo Wii also has some games which have real life graphics, but they have also opted to produce many games in a more cartoon style, which makes the console appeal to a much wider audience. This means that kids of a young age can enjoy and appreciate the Wii, as well as adults.

Online Gaming

One of the most important aspects of the gaming culture today, is the ability to take games online and play against, or with, gamers from all across the world. This is a huge development in modern gaming, and one that all three major consoles offer. The PS3 and Wii allow you to play online for free, as long as you have an internet connection at home, while the Xbox 360 requires a subscription to their “Xbox Live” account to be able to play online.

Online gaming was made popular by games like World of Warcraft, which began on computes, whereby players from around the world join the game using an internet connection, and can interact with each other in a fantasy world.

Portable Consoles

Portable games consoles have been around for a while, if you consider the Nintendo Game Boy, and Sega’s Game Gear. Today, however, portable games consoles like the Sony PSP and the Nintendo DS are far more advance, and offer a much more sophisticated gaming experience.

The technology surrounding portable consoles is astounding, giving you the ability to play regular games on the go, as well as connect with your home console using the internet, and play against other consoles.

Since the inception of video games, the culture surrounding gaming has always been exciting. As technology advances, and the consoles develop, fans and spectators eagerly await the next big thing. In ten years time, the consoles of today will seem obsolete, and the new trends will continue to amaze and entertain.
